Chutneys Bistro Restaurant Review:
Housed in the charming brick Wallingford Center, a former elementary school renovated into shops and casual restaurants, this neighborhood favorite featuring North Indian cuisine is as stylish as its revamped organic menu. Leaning heavily towards vegetarian preparations, it features dishes such as flame-roasted eggplant purée with cumin, tomatoes and fresh herbs; homemade farmer’s cheese with a medley of onions, carrots and bell peppers; and saffron rice paired with fresh vegetables. Savory chicken basted with tamarind and fennel may be ordered cooked in either the tandoor oven or on the rotisserie. Succulent lamb is simmered in coconut sauce, while plump shrimp are served with ground cashews and saffron. Traditional Indian breads, from classic naan to mint paratha, are traditional accompaniments with any dish. For a sweet finish, try the coconut ice cream. There's also a satisfactory selection of wine and beer.
