THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Cool Cafe Restaurant Review:
Diners may need to penetrate a wall of shisha-smoking students to enter Cool Café, but the aromatic smoke screen can’t obscure the genuinely interesting food within --- or disguise the occasionally inattentive service. Omelets, sandwiches and smoothies all appear on the mostly Mediterranean menu, along with pastas and salads. Selecting homey hummus from the appetizer menu thus may be required; we also recommend the bademjan, a dip of toasty eggplant, yogurt and mint. Among pasta offerings, the "Diablo" with mushrooms, peppers and olives is usually a better choice than the “Vienetta” with prawns in dill and paprika sauce. In the sandwich category, we would pick falafel in pita over smoked salmon with dill havarti in an attempt to stay somewhat culturally correct. Although the wine list isn’t stellar, the surprise is that there's wine at all to pair with kebabs of marinated lamb. Conclude with dessert crêpes such as the “Orange County” and its combination of orange, blueberry, coconut, caramel and walnuts, though flavored hookah tobaccos admittedly pack fewer calories. Also located in the Stone Oak area.
