THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED The Criterion Restaurant Review:
The Criterion in Piccadilly Circus is one of the most beautiful and striking restaurants in London --- all red and gold and Byzantine. But surprisingly, it’s had a checquered history as a restaurant. It seems set currently for a good modern British experience that starts with the likes of lobster salad or new season asparagus and moves on to risotto; salt marsh lamb in three cuts with polenta, aubergine purée and mushrooms; or a satisfying steak from the grill. Desserts are equally well thought out and conceived, as in a gooseberry parfait crumble with vanilla ice cream or a spiced tarragon and Szechuan crème brûlée with raspberry compote and crisp fruit chips. The food is enthusiastically served and the room buzzes with a contented crowd.
