THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED ECR Grille Restaurant Review:
The brainchild of Savory’s chef Pascal Vignau, ECR Grille (El Camino Real) is helmed by Vignau’s former sous chef, David Birtness. This unpretentious burger joint combines sophisticated ingredients with comfort food recipes, as in the case of mac ‘n’ croquette (their riff on the American classic), sweet potato fries, pickled watermelon and a bevy of burgers. Burgers are the cornerstone, but there are some interesting breakfast sandwiches, better than average kids’ options (don’t miss the grilled peanut butter and jam) and a long list of beverages. The Ham-burger is a thick, flavorful beef patty topped with ham, Brie, Gouda and habanero aïoli. The Picante is a chicken tenders “burger” topped with grilled onions, roasted garlic and pepperjack. Vegetarians will opt for the Herbivore (red rice, edamame patty, tomato and mushrooms). Fries are thin and crisp and can be made with either Russets or sweet potatoes. Dipping sauces and toppings include the secret (and our favorite) ECR spread, roasted garlic-basil pesto, house-made ketchup, habanero aïoli, pickled carrots, grilled jalapeños, tomato salsa and roasted garlic. Whether you eat in or take out, you won’t be disappointed.
