THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Epiphany Restaurant Review:
From the moment you glimpse the unobtrusive little sign that hangs outside Epiphany, you know what awaits inside. Something about it---perhaps the tiny spotlights above or the ever-so-slightly pretentious name scrawled across---tips you off. This is a restaurant to take seriously...with prices to match, though the menu has been adapted to the slack economy. The New American cuisine is not quite fusion, but not nouveau comfort food either. Begin with Sonoma Valley foie gras and fresh oysters on the half shell. Entrées are surprisingly restrained; the pan-roasted whitefish and Epiphany paella seem almost too healthy for fine dining. To balance things out, there's the wickedly indulgent grilled rib-eye steak in Cabernet sauce with creamy Maytag blue cheese gratin. The six-course tasting menu is delightful but expensive. For dessert, Fire & Ice is guaranteed to send chocolate lovers onto cloud nine (make sure to pre-order). Kevin Costner is part owner of this restaurant, but star power is also coming from the kitchen.
