THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Ernesto's 1521 Cafe Restaurant Review:
This is a good place for pre-theater dinners, or any other occasion for that matter. Bright paintings by local artists (all for sale) decorate this bare bones dining room in an old townhouse. The pastas, including the handmade fettuccine Bolognese and cappellini fra diavolo, are a notch above the norm. Sprightly, fresh salads and a vegetable napoleon should please vegetarians, but carnivores will appreciate the braised lamb shank or daily veal special. Seafood lovers will enjoy the classic cioppino and the jumbo crab cake served with mushroom risotto and Dijon cream dipping sauce. A well-priced wine list accommodates, or bring your own and pay the $5 per bottle corkage fee. Try the house version of tiramisu or the creamy gelato for dessert.
