THIS RESTAURANT HAS CHANGED NAMES Espelette Restaurant Review:
Espelette is the relaxed dining room at The Connaught hotel, a lovely restaurant with a conservatory overlooking the smart streets of Mayfair. Called after the town in southwest France made famous for its red pepper, piment d’Espelette, it’s an all-day dining venue which makes for one of the capital’s best breakfast and afternoon tea spots; it also serves a late supper menu. A mix of British favorites with French touches populates the menu --- confit duck leg with pickled vegetables, peppers and black olive bruschetta, sausages courtesy of the top butcher Allen of Mayfair, some splendid grills, and mains like pan-seared cod with lentil fricassée, clams and baby artichokes. Set menus change daily and include the dishes that Parisian bistros have made their own. It’s a beautiful setting with luxurious fabrics and kind colors and cosseting service from the attentive staff. Set menu du jour: 2 courses £28, 3 courses £35.
