Since 1977, Eulipia, named for a jazz song, has brought a hip note to the San Jose dining scene. Upstairs is a lively bar. Downstairs, the brick walls, modern art, candles and white tablecloths set the stage for some tasty combinations. Lots of salads populate the eclectic menu; especially good are roasted baby beets lightened by a citrus vinaigrette. A cashew crust enrobes the Atlantic salmon filet, while the grilled rib-eye is a classic paired with garlic mashers and a Cabernet jus. End notes include bananas Foster and chocolate lava cake. The wine list highlights the best of California and includes all the big name high-end Cabs.
