THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Fenix Bar & Eatery Restaurant Review:
It’s a tiny place in a nondescript strip mall. But chef Omar Matmati does good things with a classic Gallic menu of garlicky escargots, coq au vin, duck a l’orange, steak au poivre and pan-seared filet of sole in lemon butter. Perhaps best of all, seven nights a week, from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m., diners can feast on a streamlined but still substantial menu of favorites. A few late-night highlights include mac ‘n’ cheese (topnotch, with lots of Gruyère and Parmesan), bar steak with crispy shallots, and very good short rib sliders with cream cheese and red wine sauce. Definitely stop in during the later hours for a hipster scene---the savvy know to come here for sophisticated snacks, cocktails and a bit of canoodling.
