fish! Restaurant Review:

As steakhouses used to in the past, fish! takes a straightforward approach to serving its chosen protein. The menu, which doubles as a disposable place mat, is little more than a tick-list on one side and policy statement on the other. Hemmed in by Southwark Cathedral and Borough fruit and vegetable market, it’s an ideal spot for a thoroughly British experience in a gleaming glass and metal structure. Starters include the likes of retro prawn cocktail and that fish that featured in so many 60s love affairs, calamari with rocket and lemon mayonnaise. Then a choice of a score of fish, ticked where available, is offered steamed or grilled with a choice of salsa, hollandaise, herb butter, olive oil dressing or red wine gravy. It's not ambitious cooking, but it's spot on. Nursery puddings such as traditional sticky toffee are also the best of their type. Frill-free and fun, it's a big hit with City types slipping south of the river for a fish supper, and at weekends caters admirably for families.
