THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Flavor Asian Fusion & Dessert Bar Restaurant Review:
Chef Weerayut "Oudi" Utedpornratanakul spent several years in Dallas working the upscale Asian restaurant circuit, followed by a few years in San Francisco before returning to Dallas to open this shining star in a murky part of town. Silky cuts of sea-worthy sushi, like tuna and salmon, are draped over sculpted rice, while hearty chunks of chicken, green beans and whole straw mushrooms steeped in a lemon grass and ginger broth make for a first-rate tom kah soup. A coconut milk red curry with chicken and bamboo shoots has just enough fire to keep you wanting one more bite. “Flavor Ginger," a mix of stir-fried tofu, broccoli and bamboo shoots bobbing in a medium-hot ginger-chili sauce served with black sesame seed-studded rice, is also a hit. And the tuna tower raises the bar with its pillar of chopped tuna, crab, avocado, rice, caviar and wasabi sauce. For dessert, try the flan in a ginger essence broth, the results of which are a slightly wacky but tasty East-meets-West finale.
