Frankinbun Restaurant Review:
About the restaurant: Frankinbun, which has been featured on Food Network’s “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives,” offers a menu of tasty gourmet sausages. Owner Tristan Gittens, an analyst for the biotech industry, opened the Indian Canyon Drive spot to bring comfort food with a bit of a gourmet twist to the desert.
Likes: The assortment of sausages, especially the vegan option.
Dislikes: German potato salad is the only complimentary side.
Food: The selection runs the gamut from hearty German-style wursts and hot dogs to veggie and vegan varieties. There are the usual suspects, brats and hot links, along with some unusual options. Currywurst, a Bavarian staple and a favorite Munich street food, highlights a tomato-based curry sauce. The chicken and waffle comprises chicken apple sausage ensconced in a crisp waffle shell, much like a corn dog, and is served with maple syrup. A flight of wieners (three in all) and a vegan chili dog are available, too. Most condiments, except for a few chutneys, are complimentary, and all entrées come with a side of German potato salad.
