Frida Mexican Cuisine Restaurant Review:
About the restaurant: If you are on the Westside and have a craving for "Estados Unidos Mexicanos" cuisine, head to Frida Mexican Cuisine --- you will surely leave happy. The modern décor at the Beverly Hills location might not be what you’d expect from a traditional Mexican restaurant, but the cuisine features all the requisite flavors.
Likes: Homey cuisine
Dislikes: The chain-looking paper menu
Food & Drinks: There are a few must-haves on the lengthy menu. First off is the tableside guacamole, which can be customized to your liking with onions, jalapeño, tomato, cilantro and/or fresh lime juice. The "camarones al ajillo" (sautéed prawns in garlic, white wine, butter and lemon juice, served with white rice) are simple but so good. Finish with the tres leches cake for dessert. On another visit, you can switch things up and try the quesadilla with chicken, beef or shrimp; sopa de tortilla; or the "resplandor de mango," a salad of mixed greens, grapes, mangos, caramelized walnuts and goat cheese seasoned with a passion fruit dressing (chicken, beef or shrimp can also be added). Of course, ceviches are offered, as well as tacos, with one vegetarian option. The salmon a la diabla comes in chile chipotle cream, while many variations of chicken are accompanied by moles. We like the "special sauce" topped with house onions that covers the 8 oz. Angus grilled filet mignon. There's a compact list of wines by the glass or bottle but we recommend one of the margaritas --- after all, you are in a Mexican restaurant. If you tend to wake up late, breakfast is served until 2 p.m. and lunch specials (expect tacos, burritos and chile relleno) until 4 p.m. Other locations.
