THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Gaffney’s Restaurant Restaurant Review:
You’ve seen its prototype before, when owner Pat Gaffney operated his oyster bar in Arlington. Now his Bethesda operation reels in the oyster theme in favor of more mainstream fare and a lively tavern-like atmosphere: the long bar takes up a sizeable portion of floor space. That said, you won’t find any breakthrough flavor triumphs, but you will find decent entrée salads---the Southwestern chicken version has plenty of flavor, chicken and avocado---and all-American sandwiches, burgers and entrées that include roast chicken, flatiron steak, and meatloaf with garlic mashed potatoes. Desserts, including cheesecake, peach cobbler and a French bread pudding, underscore the mainstream nature of Gaffney’s.
