The fish always fresh and the futomaki (a vegetable roll with pickled vegetables and egg) savory, which is the major reason Hatsuhana has for years been considered among the finest sushi places in the city---even with lots of new competition. Hatsuhana is busiest at lunch and reservations are recommended, but if you are alone you can usually grab a seat at one of the two long sushi bars. Although no longer on the cutting edge, it remains a reliable and reasonably priced choice for mid-town diners.
