THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED J. Buck's Restaurant Review:
Sporting a reputation as both a restaurant and a bar, J. Buck’s has a menu with a dual personality. You’ll find all your favorite game-watching nibbles: wings, chicken tenders, pizza, onion rings, burgers and sandwiches (including the local take on a Philly cheesesteak, coated with melted Provel cheese). Then the menu shifts into steakhouse mode with the half-pound prime ground chuck burger, Chilean salmon, house-smoked pork chops and filet mignon. The don't-miss dish is Buck's cheesecake, where the cheesecake is sandwiched between layers of dark chocolate cake. The wine list is solid, and service is pleasant. The bar is popular with the Clayton crowd, meaning young and semi-young professionals --- as well as athletes, both local and visiting. There's a legacy at play here: the place is named for late St. Louis sports-casting legend Jack Buck, as well as his offspring: Julie, a local radio personality, and Joe, who has a fine national reputation of his own in his dad's field. The younger two are also part-owners in this and the downtown location at 1000 Clark St., 314-436-0394.
