THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Joseph Poon Restaurant Review:
Mr. Poon, who was responsible for the leading Peking duck house in Chinatown, (Joes Peking Duck House) has opened his new place on the fringes close to the Convention Center, and though he has his old favorites, some new efforts are daring. In this contemporary room, you can sample what can only be called Asian-Fusion cooking: tacos of Peking duck, polenta with Peking duck, stuffed wild mushrooms, or a stir-fry of chicken and fresh mango. Then theres baked lobster, or New Zealand green mussels with black bean sauce and, if available, delicate sea scallops steamed in their shells. If none of this appeals, you can make up you own entrée from a list of meats, vegetables, herbs and sauces that even include XO moonshine or Chardonnay. Then, if you like the result, Mr. Poon teaches free cooking classes on Saturday afternoons!
