THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Kensington Grill Restaurant Review:
Owner Tracy Borkum’s Kensington Grill remains a destination, not only for neighborhood folks but for all of San Diego. The space includes both a sophisticated foyer-cum-gift shop and a more accommodating patio. Ambience plays a big part here: the décor is subdued, the lighting low, the mood hip. Among chef Hanis Cavin’s small plates are duck potpie filled with chard, carrots, trumpet mushrooms and cippolini onions, and a shrimp waffle with Creole butter. But don’t overlook the hog bar, unique to San Diego, which allows a sampling of Kensington’s favorite pork served on a wood board with bites of pork cheek hash, caramelized fennel and leek sausage, plus spicy rinds and, of course, a selection of bacon.
