THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Key West Cafe Restaurant Review:
At the Café’s downtown location, ceramic animals cling to the gazebo-style room's walls, which are framed by pastel-green shutters, while a white ceramic cockatiel appears to be watching over the proceedings. He’ll look on in approval as you choose conch fritters, parrot toes (lightly fried chicken strips), rum and coconut shrimp or grouper nuggets to start your meal. Salads, sandwiches and pastas satisfy the lunch crowd; for dinner, slow the pace to a Key West crawl and sample the Bubba, grilled pork tenderloin glazed with horseradish marmalade. (If you’re very hungry, the Grand Bubba serves two.) A grilled half-chicken, top sirloin and a grilled Caribbean jerk pork porterhouse are all served with mashed sweet potatoes, a light and tasty twist on the traditional helping of garlic mashers seen everywhere else in town. Why not? After all, this is Key West.
