Late-night noshing with a tropical flair in Union Station.
THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Key West Cafe Restaurant Review:
Not even a tourist---and there are plenty in Union Station---would mistake downtown St. Louis for Margaritaville. But late at night, when this eatery hits its stride, it’s easier to buy into the theme. Perhaps that’s why this tucked-away spot is so overlooked by most locals, with the exception of late-night theater crews and fans wandering home from nearby concert and sports venues. Still, the framed Hemingway posters put one in the mood for a well-mixed cocktail and seafood. Make no mistake: this is a fish house, with peppery conch chowder, spicy buffalo shrimp and grouper sandwiches, though it also serves a reasonably authentic Cuban sandwich. The pricing on some of the more exotic meats, like alligator, reflects their rarity rather than the excellence of their preparation. Splurge instead on the Key lime pie. The kitchen stays open until 2 a.m., the bar an hour later.
