La Rural Argentina is a landmark for straightforward steaks and chops---a classic steakhouse experience with an open grill, good high-energy service, enormous portions and prices to match. The menu features lots of enticing appetizers---empanadas, carpaccios, Serrano ham---but you may want to save room for La Rural’s raison d’être: red meat. The porterhouse for two is more like a portion for six. An unusual option is the breaded milanesa steak, a dish found on menus at the humblest Mexican restaurants. At La Rural, however, it is exceedingly tender, breaded and fried just so, and full of flavor. Don’t miss the “soufflé” potatoes, puffed, fried spuds served in an edible, deep-fried basket, that are worth every calorie. A la carte sides feature all the chophouse classics: baked potato, grilled vegetables and more, as well as super-rich creamed spinach. An impressive wine selection, a lovely, rustic atmosphere and striking table linens enhance the experience.
