THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED The Libertine Restaurant Review:
When this downtown eatery first lit up its burners in late 2008, the grand name of Todd English was attached to it. But now English has moved on. The restaurant, in the meantime, goes on. Located in Gild Hall in the Financial District, the interior is resplendent with the vibe of a gentleman’s club. That ambience is echoed in the furnishings: plenty of leather and dark wood, a good complement to sipping beers or scotches. Likewise, the food is classic, comfy and inviting. You’ll find both sliders and a massive hamburger topped with fried onions, Kobe beef dogs in a blanket, and even macaroni and cheese with a topping of crumbled Ritz crackers. More often than not, these dishes are successful.
