Tucked into the interior corner of a shopping center, this is Monterey Park’s lone Indonesian restaurant. The owners have done their best to create a charming environment in a very small space. Native art adorns the walls, and the half-dozen tables are covered with colorful batiks. At lunch, a deli counter offers pre-made items, but ordering off the menu is worth the extra couple of bucks. The house specialty is ayam kalasan, a marinated fried chicken that has a delicious lacquered skin. Other good options include the satays with a peanut dipping sauce, ayam panggang (a tangy barbecued chicken dish) and various fish dishes with a sweet-and-spicy soy sauce.
