Los Canarios Restaurant Review:
Though its menu (and general set-up) are similar to any number of high-end D.F. Mexican restaurants, Los Canarios is in many cases a cut above, with an extensive selection of comfort items (quesadillas, Veracruz-style seafood, steak in chipotle sauce) as well as more exotic fare such as the tuna carpaccio and even calf’s brains in black butter. Visitors may wish to stick to the traditional faves for a taste of how Los Canarios takes items found on every Mexican menu to a higher level. The sopa seca de fideo (really more like an appetizer pasta than a soup), for instance, has a buttery texture that’s nicely cut by cilantro and tangy tomato sauce. Enchiladas in green sauce are similarly delicate and flavorful, with fresh tortillas and a salsa that has just the right bite. Seafood lovers will go for the robalo (snapper) served six different ways; we recommend the breaded and fried version, but there’s also a tomato chipotle iteration. Think twice before refusing traditional desserts, like the tres leches cake.
