Spicy Puerto Rican flavors freshen up the New American cuisine at ABC Carpet & Home.
THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Lucy of Gramercy Restaurant Review:
Tucked away in a furniture store, this eatery is ruled by chef Carmen Gonzalez who brings her exciting Puerto Rican flavor combinations to both traditional and unconventional dishes and drinks. Start with picadera, street foods redolent of tastes of the island, such as arañitas (grated green plantains with roasted garlic) or yuca and chicken with spicy pique pepper dipping sauce. A wine list of largely Latin-focused selections and whimsical cocktails created by the restaurant’s drinkmeister pair well with entrées like adobo-rubbed churrasco encebollao with Vidalia onions, rice, beans and ripe plantain chutney. Desserts are another specialty with Gonzalez’ light and airy flan with caramel sauce taking center stage. The room feels like a whitewashed hacienda, airy with wood touches. A colorful bar invites you to drop in for a quick snack or sip before you settle in for the feast ahead.
