THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Luxe Restaurant Review:
Housed in the back of the Wingate by Wyndham Manhattan Midtown hotel, this Italian eatery at first seems like little more than a doorway leading to a bar. But walk to the back and the room opens up to a 65-seat restaurant and a leafy garden. The menu leans more toward Mulberry Street than it does to Milan, with many of the old Italian-American standbys like penne alla vodka making an appearance. That said, what comes out of the kitchen is solid fare, from the pasta with smoked bacon in a pink sauce to the creamy homemade spinach tortellini in a four-cheese sauce. For something meatier, the Barolo-laced lamb chops are decadent and the simply prepared grilled salmon, doused with a bit of lemon, is “mamma-mia” good.
