THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Mandalay Restaurant & Cafe Restaurant Review:
Fans of exotic Asian cooking will celebrate the arrival of a third Burmese restaurant in the metro area, and this is about as good as it gets outside of the capital city, Rangoon. To make this restaurant even more unique, it doubles as a doughnut shop, which must perplex both sets of customers. Every dish we tried rang true, and we loved the pickled green tea leaf salad---a favorite refreshing snack for Burmese---and the pork with mango pickles, a hot yet sour dish that is apparently ranked as the restaurants top-selling dish. Not so interesting, and more Chinese than anything else, was the shrimp with hot and spicy sauce, which was neither hot nor spicy. Save room for the golden shweji, a cake made with cream of wheat baked with sugar and coconut milk---its rich, filling and authentic.
