Cafe Med Restaurant Review:
Enduring the usual wait at this Coconut Grove mainstay (which opened in 1991) will reward you with CocoWalk's most relaxed dining experience, thanks largely to a charming indoor-outdoor setting. The Mediterranean-tiled interior is expansive, with a theatrical open kitchen; the copious patio seating provides great people-watching and a good listening post for CocoWalk's weekend live music. As for the Italian-inspired food, pastas and entrées are inconsistent in both cooking and quality of ingredients. Better bets are the dinner-size salads, brick-oven pizzas (which come with appealing charcoal blisters if diners remember to specify a liking for well-done crusts), and generously-sized starters like mussels in spicy tomato sauce, or a crisp-battered frittura di calamari and veggies. Though the Grove now has numerous eateries with more interesting food, Café Med is still a fun spot to grab a bite before a CocoWalk movie. Additionally it's more welcoming to families with children than the area's many liquor-fueled venues.
