Dong Phuong Restaurant Review:
About the restaurant: New Orleanians will take a long drive to get to Dong Phuong for authentic Vietnamese cuisine. Families often gather around the tables to enjoy the hearty, moderately priced meals.
Food & Drinks: The restaurant is known for its seafood egg rolls; five-spice duck noodle soup; po' boy-like barbecue pork crispy bun; jumbo shrimp; and skewers holding strips of thin-sliced beef to be dipped into a plum-type sauce with an enticing perfume and a peppery edge. The attached bakery operation supplies many local Asian markets with bread as well as with both sweet and savory pastries; a single dollar buys three crusty Vietnamese-style baguettes still warm from the oven. Colorful paper lanterns and a big, gurgling fish tank enliven the décor, making a visit to the restaurant worthwhile just for its visual delights. No alcohol.
