THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Yakko-San Restaurant Review:
Yakko-San’s draw is its authentic Japanese comfort foods that Miami’s sushi bars and pan-Asian “modern Izakayas” don’t serve. These include rarely-found-in-America raw fish preparations like yamakake tuna, raw tuna over Japanese potato, or nuta-ae, raw fish and scallion with a savory/sweet miso-mustard sauce. Still, much of the menu’s charm lies in cooked dishes. Some are familiar like shrimp tempura or beef tataki, but even unfamiliar options are almost all accessible and, after one bite, irresistible: red paper-spiked lamb steak with saké and soy; even spicier pork with Korean kimchi; deep-fried crispy bok choy with garlicky dressing; kakiage, a tempura of battered grated burdock and carrots; tender beef slices with garlic stems; sautéed lotus root; rich marinated and grilled pork belly; and a wide variety of Asian noodle or onigiri (stuffed rice ball) items. Yakko-San also serves sushi, which is fine if little different than that found all over town.
