La Cucaracha Restaurant Review:
We like the cozy St. Paul restaurant best for its resemblance to the home we’d want in Mexico. The Flores family championed warm homemade chips and fresh guacamole back when most people thought Mexican food meant Taco John's. Years later, even though there are better Mexican restaurants around, we remain loyal to "La Cuc" for the family atmosphere, good margaritas and expansive menu. We recommend the enchiladas, crispy flautas with goat cheese and the fajitas that arrive sizzling hot. Tacos, enchiladas, tostadas and burritos can be custom ordered, but we have found them tasting a bit mass-produced in recent years. Better to stick to one of the entrées such Tacho's pollo loco, a grilled chicken breast covered in a hot chipotle pepper sauce that will set your mouth ablaze.
