Restaurant Spain Restaurant Review:
Don't be put off by the tacky sign or the awkward location at the mouth of the Glendale Freeway. Inside, deli shelves are stocked with Spanish marzipan, olive oil and saffron, and there’s a case of meats, pastas and empanadas. The dining room is decorated with paella pans and Spanish travel posters. Well-executed dishes include classic pan con tomate (bread smeared with crushed tomatoes and olive oil), sausage and onions with rice, mixed seafood in a traditional creamy and spicy tomato sauce, and breaded beef with potatoes. However interesting these plates may be, there’s no doubt that the main attraction is the generously portioned and bargain-priced paella. Paella mixta utilizes seafood, chicken and sausage, while paella de mar hosts a medley of shellfish and fish. For dessert, consider bread pudding or cheese with candy sweet potato, which is better than it sounds.
