Riki Restaurant Review:
This longstanding izakaya --- a Japanese gastropub of sorts --- is a fun, casual place to eat affordable food that is not raw fish. Sure, there’s sushi on the menu, but Riki is popular for the dishes it serves that you don’t see in the average Japanese restaurant in New York. Take the omurice, an omelet with ketchup and rice (it’s better than it sounds), the star of yoshoku cuisine, a Japanese-American hybrid that rarely is exported beyond Japanese shores. There’s also pan-fried shredded potato with butter, pan-fried noodles with pork and kimchi, and celery and sardines to complete your tour of obscure Japanese dishes. Wash it all down with a glass of saké or a pint of Japanese beer.
