Most LA dinner and dancing dates require a car ride between the taking-in and burning-off of calories. Takami Sushi & Robata Restaurant + Elevate Lounge, though, is a downtown spot (accessible by Metro) where both can be enjoyed, plus striking city views to boot. Located 21 floors up, this dining space and dance club occupies an entire floor of a Wilshire Boulevard office building, with wrap-around, glass-protected outdoor dining out on the edge. Takami, which also incorporates trees and branches into its pop décor, attracts a mix of young clubgoers as well as an older crowd enjoying a wide variety of sushi, robata and beautifully-presented Asian fusion dishes. The menu offers the expected miso, edamame and sushi, as well as artistic-looking creations such as the "Creamy Rock Shrimp Tempura Purse." Rounding out the options are dishes like baby lamb chops with sweet soy truffle sauce, wasabi mashed potatoes and mushrooms, as well as a satisfying warm molten chocolate cake. The hip, high-rise restaurant features a full bar and a good selection of wine and sake, which (if ordered cold) is served by the attentive staff in a cute wooden sake bucket.
