Tuck Shop Restaurant Review:
Different owners took over Tuck Shop in early 2016, but the comfortable mood remains the same. The vibe is sophisti-playful, with industrial minimalist décor, abstract paintings and warm wood floors. The menu is now even better. It’s marketed as “neighborhood comfort food,” but this is one lucky neighborhood, since the cooking style is elegant, as in dishes like pan-fried celery gnocchi with Fontina and Parmesan sauce; soy-glazed pork belly with frisée salad; and afternoon tea. At the same time, the chef has fun, still putting out long-favorite treats like AZ Dairymen cheese curds deep fried in beer batter, or chicken and waffles fancied up with citrus brine, white cheddar waffle batter and grilled green beans. Expect friendly but polished service, as staff is well versed in what wines (from the well curated list), local beers and cocktails go best with dishes like vegetarian buckwheat crêpe noodles or country breaded Dover sole.
