THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Montparnasse Restaurant Review:
All things considered , this exciting, three-story brick-walled space that was once a boiler room, makes for a classy ambience---a perfect setting for the dramatic French creations that are served from a menu that straddles contemporary French ideas with those from another time. Try the roasted Forelle pear and Roquefort salad, Saddle of venison, and a rack of lamb that is one of the best around. The desserts are dynamite, too: the Chocolate terrine, a lush crème brûlée, and a charlotte of peaches that is exquisite top the list. Speaking of lists, the wine list features no fewer than 200 French and Californias that offer a good value. Service is professional yet loose. The balcony bistro---aka the Fifth Avenue Bistro is more modestly priced and features a nice range of bistro classics.
