National Dining Rooms Restaurant Review:
Oliver Peyton is something of a British institution and practices what he preaches. That is, he serves British food, and offers a changing county-of-the-month menu. The space is divided into a bakery-café and a restaurant proper that serves lunch, except for Friday evenings when dinner is offered too. The cooking is the standard we have come to expect from the charming Irish restaurateur, using the freshest ingredients and offering the likes of Weymouth crab cakes with lemon butter sauce (at £8 among the most expensive starters) and roasted lamb rump with buttered cabbage and duchess potatoes (£17.50) as a main. Cheeses offer good British varieties or go for a classic like strawberry crumble with vanilla ice cream. The wine list is simple and reasonable and the service fine. The café is a very good value and serves breakfast (from 10am) and afternoon tea. Set 2-course County lunch £24, 3 courses £27; Sunday menu 2 courses £23.50, 3 courses £26.50.
