THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Pauwela Cafe & Bakery Restaurant Review:
Chef Brandon Shim and his staff operate this small café in what was an old pineapple cannery. It's tucked up in the wilds of Haiku and frequented mostly by craftsmen from the nearby building trade shops. However, many local residents make an effort to stop by for their cappuccinos, pastries made with unbleached flour and Maui raw sugar, breakfast burritos with creamy béchamel sauce, baked homemade french bread soaked in an orange-vanilla custard, and lunchtime kalua turkey and applewood BLT sandwiches. You'll be surprised by the level of sophistication of the food in this out-of-the-way setting.
