Penelope Restaurant Review:
New York City doesn’t offer anything closer to a country cottage kitchen than this restaurant with its quaint sky blue and white interior, pretty wainscoting and playful decorative accents. The all-day menu features soups, salads and vegetarian-friendly large plates. Southern-inspired options and other dishes drawing from a range of culinary influences ensure there is something for almost everyone. Start with appetizers like the sinewy blue claw crab cakes, or crunchy corn on the cob with truffle butter, a Southern favorite with a Big Apple twist. Then consider sweet pea mac ‘n’ cheese baked with Fontina and pecorino, fresh peas and white truffle and topped with breadcrumbs, and a Turtle Cove lobster roll made with fresh lobster meat mixed in a light lemon mayonnaise in a brioche roll, which demonstrate the menu's eclecticism. A bakery turns out freshly made desserts. An agreeable wine list highlights well-known varietals from popular international regions.
