THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Buca di Beppo Restaurant Review:
THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED The Buca di Beppo chain’s first foray into New York City is situated right on Times Square. Breeze past the line waiting to enter Planet Hollywood, walk through the double doors and take the elevator to the third floor. And then say “mamma mia”: you’ve found it. Decked out with all the Italian restaurant clichés (red-and-white-checkered tablecloths, etc.), the interior is inviting and service is attentive and friendly. The menu is designed for the mainstream American palate with plenty of chicken dishes --- if you’re craving chicken carbonara, you’ll find it here --- and few signs of pork or beef. “Cheesy Bread Florentine” is on the heavy side, and the pastas, served up in big portions, tend to be cooked way past al dente. Pizzas are not as forgettable as other menu items and are refreshingly thin, buttressing the New York proclivity for all things Neapolitan. You could consider skipping straight to the colossal brownie sundae, which arrives in a massive martini glass and is fun to share.
