Platine Cookies Restaurant Review:
Pastry chef Jamie Cantor, formerly of The French Laundry, quietly operates this little bakery in Culver City; its name means “platinum” in French. And like all precious metals, a little goes a long way, so Cantor tends to specialize in miniatures, including petite tarts with designer good looks, delicately embellished sugar cookies, and a tiny stack of maple-orange syrup-soaked pancakes topped with sugar-glazed bacon. Signature caramel-covered brownies and baby pot de crèmes tend to sell out quickly, and the seasonal products are baked with all-natural ingredients. There's even a cookie-of-the-month club, so you’ll never be out of stock of snickerdoodles or chocolate-walnut cookies, which incorporate four different types of gourmet chocolate. It’s not a bargain, but you won’t be paying French Laundry prices either.
