Pom Pom's Teahouse & Sandwicheria Restaurant Review:
Tucked in an unassuming shopping center on Bumby Avenue between Colonial Drive and the East-West Expressway on the fringe of downtown, quirky Pom Pom’s offers a creative selection of freshly made sandwiches. Among our favorites is the Mama Ling Ling’s Thanksgiving with turkey, Gouda, stuffing, ginger cranberry chutney, mashed potato and cream cheese with a side of gravy for dipping. Salads are a little less inventive, but tasty nonetheless; go for the yellow curry chicken or the vegetarian Hula Hula Girl with Brie, coconut shavings and dried fruit. And anything tossed with the creamy miso-Caesar dressing is worth a try. Breakfast is a weekends-only deal, with oddly wonderful hours: from 11 p.m. on Friday through noon Saturday, and again from 11 p.m. Saturday through 4 p.m. on Sunday (Pom Pom’s is open 24 hours on the weekends). Potato napoleons --- a stack of herbed potato pancakes topped with anything from smoked salmon and cream cheese to roasted red peppers and basil hollandaise --- are a fine late-night nosh or early-morning indulgence.
