Homey and casual, this Upper West Side café has become a New York mainstay in its nearly three-decade long life (so far). Plump popovers slathered with strawberry or apple butter, large fresh salads and egg dishes are perennial favorites at this busy stop. Teddy bears festoon the place and moms with kids fill its plaid banquettes. There’s more elbow room at dinner, when things get more ambitious. Some might even call it romantic in the evening; most call it homey all the time.
