Sarabeth's Restaurant Review:
Sarabeth’s has become a New York institution, offering homey cakes, scones, brownies, jams and sticky buns. The restaurants labor in the bakery’s shadow, except during brunch hours when hungry folk patiently line the sidewalk for their turn to enjoy french toast, buttermilk pancakes and specialties like Goldielox --- scrambled eggs with cream cheese and smoked salmon. Sarabeth’s also serves a strong contemporary American menu for lunch and dinner, when dining is relaxed and civilized. Favorites include the grilled cheese with cream of tomato soup and flat-iron steak frites. It’s also a good spot for mid-afternoon tea and scones. Also located at The Whitney Museum, 945 Madison Ave., 212-570-3670; and Hotel Wales, 1295 Madison Ave., 212-410-7335.
