THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Sascha's 527 Cafe Restaurant Review:
Is Sascha’s the most glamorous restaurant in Baltimore? There’s plenty of competition, but Sascha Wolhandler’s dramatic digs are certainly in contention. The dining room --- known to the movie-going public as Boogie’s hair salon in “Diner” --- boasts a red velvet-curtained entrance, 16-foot ceilings, towering floral arrangements and a vintage chandelier. Guests feel like royalty even before they take their seats. There’s no la-di-dah pretense about the place, though. The welcome is warm, and the internationally influenced food is bistro-cozy rather than intimidatingly haute. Seasonal selections change frequently, but might include tapas-size “taste plates” such as shrimp and grits, mini bison burgers and a fried green tomato salad, and entrées of farm-raised rockfish with oyster stew, braised fennel and fingerling potatoes or bourbon-brined pork rib chop with braised greens.
