South Gate Restaurant Review:
Situated along Central Park, this modern American eatery’s chic and showy interior comes courtesy of designer Tony Chi. The dining room offers heavy yet stylish leanings toward the 1970s. Off-white leather banquettes sit below walls crammed with a mosaic of mirrors and the front of the room looks out onto Central Park. The real show, however, is what’s on the menu: seasonal, modern American cuisine. Start with zesty hamachi or the grilled Hudson Valley foie gras, crunchy on the outside and silky on the inside. Entrées are divided as surf ‘n’ turf: the butter-roasted lobster in a pepper-marjoram broth is served like a hearty stew while the crispy Snake River Farms pork belly arrives in three blocks of tender goodness.
