Tagine Restaurant Review:
Actor Ryan Gosling, chef Ben Benameur and Chris Angulo teamed up to create this intimate Moroccan restaurant in Beverly Hills. Tagine's dining room features mellow lighting and high-backed banquettes with plenty of pillows. Chef Benameur combines the seasonal ingredients of California with the spices and flavors of his native Morocco. A notable b’stilla (phyllo stuffed with ground hen and eggs) honors its roots, while lemon-marinated chicken, lamb in seven spices, and quail served with shiitake mushrooms are well-crafted entrées. Signature tagines, served in traditional clay pots, include fish of the day, chicken, beef and lamb shank. Rich chocolate soup with Moroccan cookies makes for an intriguing dessert. A list of mostly Californian wine and beers, with a few imported selections, is available.
