THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Taquiza Restaurant Review:
Taquiza is a quaint alfresco bungalow off tourist-ridden Collins Avenue, where tacos are the name of the game. Al pastor (Mexico's claim to taco fame), the quintessential pork and pineapple combo, is offered here. So are carnitas, literally translated as "little meats," originating from the Mexican state of Michoacán. Mexican grasshoppers? Those, too. But there's also barbacoa beef and your average chicken for the less adventurous and more Americanized palates. While fillings are plentiful, the real star of the show is the masa, which is sourced from Masienda and ground in-house with sapphire kernels of corn to create blue tortillas and chips. Get the topopos (chips and guacamole), and once you've had your share of corn tacos, finish things off with a choco taco. It’s exactly what it sounds like (sort of): horchata ice cream with raisins in a Mexican chocolate waffle cone with sesame, pumpkin and peanuts on top.
