THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Tevere Restaurant Review:
About the restaurant & décor: Cozy Tevere offers some of Manhattan's finest glatt kosher Roman cuisine. Opened in 1982, the always-packed family-owned restaurant bears a striking resemblance to its cousin bistros, non-kosher Erminia and Lattanzi. Brick walls, white tablecloths and a large mural set a relaxed but elegant tone, with an attentive staff at the ready to answer questions about the menu.
Likes: If you keep Kosher, this menu is a home run.
Dislikes: Because it's glatt kosher, you won't find anything with dairy here, including the gelato.
Food & Drinks: The Jewish Roman artichokes are the appetizer of choice, although you might want to order a double portion --- it's rather small. Other Italian favorites include beef, tuna or salmon carpaccio. Nine pastas, including lamb agnolotti and pappardelle allo stracotto, offer a heartier second course. For a main, most diners order vitello Tevere, a Milano-style veal chop served with a salad, but the veal scaloppini Marsala is justifiably popular. Non-meat eaters will enjoy the roasted branzino oreganato with bread crumbs, white wine and herbs. For dessert, apple strudel and tiramisu are among the old-world options. In addition to a full bar, the hearty wine list includes nine choices by the glass with most from Israel or Italy.
