THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Thai Tavern Restaurant Review:
If you live in the neighborhood, you may find reason enough to drop in for a casual Thai meal. After all, this old-timer has survived the economic slumps and peaks for more than a decade. There’s plenty in the décor that suggests a Thai destination, but although the kitchen promises some very traditional cooking, we found the meal dull. The tod mun (fried fish cakes) were tiny and bland, the crispy duck special was fatty, and the soft-shell crabs were heavily battered and served with a flavorless sauce. Yet the menu offers some unusual Thai fare, especially the country-style dishes that rarely show up on local menus. Nevertheless, with fierce Thai competition in town, the Thai Tavern needs to upgrade its menu to broaden its appeal.
